pure xtc is the genre blurring project of Kansas City based artist Taylor Hughes, who writes and produces music that fuses raw, confessional lyricism with bold, dance forward production with layers of fuzzy guitars.
Performing as a duo with drummer Blaire Geenens, pure xtc delivers a high energy live show built on shifting instrumentation, with Hughes moving between guitar, bass, and percussion. The project has played festival stages across the U.S. and shared bills with artists including Dashboard Confessional, Aly & AJ, Big Freedia, Jenny Lewis, Fletcher, and more.
pure xtc has been featured on Apple Music's New in Alternative, VEVO's Incoming Alternative and her track "Fall Apart" was featured in Birkenstock and Harvey Nichols stores through The UK and Europe. Early work includes the 2022 collaboration “Orange You Happy Yet” IPA with Crane Brewing, extending the project into unexpected creative spaces beyond music. pure xtc’s music was featured in the independent film “Midwest Skidmark,” which premiered at AMC theaters, and she later scored the short film “Rangoon” that premiered to a sold out audience in Kansas City, MO. In 2025 pure xtc’s music video for “Drive” was an official selection at 29 Queer Film Festival in Twentynine Palms, CA.
pure xtc’s debut full length album is set for release in July 2026, featuring producers Dylan Jackson Scott (Halsey, lovelytheband) and Bryan Czap (The Dangerous Summer).
